A key task for the Medical Support is to protect the health and environment of all sections of the Armed Forces. Another key task is to develop and provide emergency care, such as field hospitals and ambulance services.

Armed Forces’ personnel are at a heightened risk of mental and physical distress, in peacetime exercises as well as in operations in war situations. Units take a preventative approach to these issues, and have the necessary knowledge and expertise to continuously monitor and support personnel.

The Armed Forces Centre for Defence Medicine, (FömedC), is responsible for the Armed Forces' health and medical care. It recruits and trains healthcare personnel to meet the needs of the entire service, and develops methods and tactics within the field of healthcare.
