A key task is the management of environmental and health protection in all sections of the Armed Forces. Another is to develop and operate emergency care, such as field hospitals and ambulance services.

Armed Forces’ personnel are at a heightened risk of mental and physical distress, during exercises in peacetime, and during operations at war. Units take a preventative approach to these issues, and have the necessary knowledge and expertise to continuously monitor and support personnel.

The Armed Forces Centre for Defence Medicine, (FömedC), is responsible for the Armed Forces' health and medical care. It recruits and trains healthcare personnel to meet the needs of the entire service, and develops methods and tactics within the healthcare area.
