Among other things, Sweden's contribution to dog service issues is handled in the Nordic defence cooperation NORDECFO. Secondly, the department provides the central test and research officer for the service dog.
Operations development
In its role as the central test and research officer for the service dog, it is our task to prepare and initiate trials with materials, vehicles, dog handler equipment, etc., and produce the manuals and other policy documents for the service dog. In the area of development of materials, we interact with the Swedish Armed Forces and units that conduct dog services.
Research
In order for the service dog to be based on scientific grounds, FHTE conducts research along with FOI (Swedish Defence Research Agency). The research has mostly taken place within the mine and explosives search area.
