21 students from 8 different countries are participating in the NATO/Partnership Multinational Tactical Planning Course (MTPC) started at SWEDINT Monday 31st of August.

The three week course is open to NATO and partner countries and aims to prepare the participants for service in a multinational staff on tactical level.

The first week was focusing on general orientations, conducted by subject matter experts from NATO as well as SWEDINT, in order to give a broad understanding of a modern conflict and relevant NATO Doctrines. In total more than 15 lectures will be given, including one by General (R) Sverre Diesen, former Chief of Defence Norway. One by Brigadier Jonny Bourne, Commander 7th Infantry Brigade (UK) who shared his experiences from his deployments to conflict areas. Brigadier General Lars-Olof Corneliusson, shared his experiences from duties as Chief of Staff, Regional Command North/ISAF, focusing on Staff work in a multinational staff.

During week two and three of the course the main content are map exercises where the students form up three syndicates. The syndicates conduct three different planning tasks for a brigade operation taking place in a fictitious Peace Support Operation (PSO) scenario.

The course is conducted by SWEDINT within the NORDEFCO framework, with the core of instructors from Sweden as well as Norway, Denmark and Finland.
