Flag lowered after 20 years in Afghanistan

On Saturday 15 May, a historic flag ceremony was held in Kabul, in the presence of the head of the multi-national force, Resolute Support Mission, US General Scott Miller and large parts of his staff. The Swedish flag was lowered at the mission headquarters, following nearly 20 years’ presence in Afghanistan.

The Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish embassy in Kabul were represented by defence attaché Colonel Johan Törnquist and detached personnel. Speeches were made by the defence attaché, the liaison officer Liuetenant-Colonel Mattias Gleisner and General Miller. The speeches highlighted Sweden’s long-term commitment to ISAF and the RSM, and fallen and injured soldiers were commemorated.
