The hosting city Uppsala from a historical and cultural perspective

A culture event is an important part of an international military championship for which the motto ”Friendship through sport” permeates all activities.

As Uppsala once was seen as the second capital of Sweden, there is a lot of interesting things to see. When the Air Combat Training School presented the city the first time at the championship in Finland in 2008, a few words were said about the history of the city.

The organising committee had turned to five experienced guides to show some of the many cultural attractions in Uppsala.

The tour started in Museum Gustavianum where the visitors got to see the anatomic theatre which was used for operations and dissections in the 17th century.

After the university museum, the guides took their visitors to Uppsala Cathedral, a building brimming with historical relics and interesting medieval architecture.

Last stop this evening was Uppsala Castle, located on a hill that provides a good view of the city and its botanical garden.
