Sweden’s Armed Forces are commanded from Armed Forces Headquarters, which incorporates three separate sites in Stockholm. Armed Forces Headquarters consists of so-called commands, staff and departments, which are responsible for a variety of practical and strategic responsibilities, including leading units on an operational level.

Armed Forces Headquarters is home to a number of command functions including Legal Staff and Human Resources Staff, the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, Armed Forces Training & Development Staff, Joint Forces Command, and the Military Intelligence & Security Service, (MUST). The Chief of Defence Staff is also Commander of Armed Forces HQ.

The Surgeon General, the Internal Audit Department, the Safety Inspectorate, and the Military Aviation Authority are based at Armed Forces Headquarters. Together, these organs supervise and control the Armed Forces.
