Zhanna’s world record paved the way to victory

In Friday’s team pistol events, the military world record was broken in the women’s competition. Fine shooting by Zhanna Shapialevich from Belarus inspired the rest of the team and they won the team gold in the sport pistol. In the men’s military rapid fire pistol event, China again won gold.

The team rapid fire events are carried out in 10, 8 and 6-second series. In each series, four times five rounds are fired. Even a complete outsider can grasp the difficulty of firing five rounds in six seconds with top precision.

The new world record, 589 points, by Zhanna Shapialevich of Belarus, is one point  better than the previous record which she herself held and which she set in 2005, in a competition in Switzerland.
Besides Zhanna Shapialevich, the winning Belarus team comprised, Marina Roinik and Natallia Yurkavets. Belarus finished on 1,734 points, equal with silver medallists Germany. The medals were decided by the last 10-series of all three shooters in each team.

In the men’s team competition, China again showed the way, winning by no less than 13 points before the second-place nation. The sensational silver medallist was Norway, whose Tor Jonassen shot an inspired 589 points.
