The Royal Guards Ceremony at the Royal Palace of Stockholm lasts about 40 minutes. It starts at 12:15pm in the palace outer courtyard on weekdays, and at 1:15pm on Sundays.

Summer

Generally, the Changing of the Guard ceremony – including a military marching band and parade – is held every day from April 23 to August 31. The column marches from the Army Museum or Cavalry Barracks at 11:45am and 11:35am respectively, and 12:45pm and 12:35pm respectively on Sundays and public holidays.

The military band is typically from the Swedish Armed Forces Music Centre. If no musical accompaniment is available, the Royal Guards march from the Obelisk, on Slottsbacken to the south side of the Royal Palace, at 12:14pm.

The foot parade departs from the Army Museum and proceeds along Artillerigatan, Strandvägen, Nybroplan, Hamngatan, Kungsträdgårdsgatan, Strömgatan, Gustav Adolfs torg, and Strömbron (during construction work at Norrbro).

The mounted parade departs from the Cavalry Barrack and proceeds along Lidingövägen, Sturegatan, Stureplan, Birger Jarlsgatan, Nybroplan, Hamngatan, Regeringsgatan, Gustav Adolfs torg, and Strömbron (during construction work at Norrbro).

  • HM Queen's birthday, on December 23, is marked by a gun salute from Skeppsholmen at 12:00pm.
  • HM King's name day, on January 28, is marked by a gun salute from Skeppsholmen at 12:00pm.
  • HRH The Crown Princess's name day, on March 12, is marked in the inner palace courtyard.
