NATO Commanding Officer Seminar on Gender
The seminar focuses on how a Commanding Officer, Chief of Staff or Branch Head can integrate gender perspective into military operations on operational and tactical level. The seminar provides the participants with a background on framework and guidelines regulating gender in military operations. The seminar also provides practical examples of how a Gender Advisor and Gender Focal Point functions and can assist the Commander during planning and conduct of operations. The seminar highlights how an integrated gender perspective can increase the operational effect and contribute to fulfilling the mission’s objectives.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The seminar is intended for participants about to deploy or become appointed as Commanding Officers, Chief of Staff or Branch Heads at J level (rank OF 4-6) or in equivalent civilian positions.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
After completing the seminar the participants will be able to integrate a gender perspective into military operations on operational and tactical level in position as a Commanding Officer, Chief of Staff or Branch Head (J level) in the area of operations by using assistance provided by gender advisor and/or gender focal point.
METHOD
The seminar will consist of lectures, round table and panel discussions, together with facilitated discussions in seminar format. Case studies and tasks will be given to be solved either in syndicate format or on individual basis. The Seminar will be conducted in an interactive way and every participant is required to take part in th ediscussions and share his or her expectations and experiences

PARTICIPANT ASSESSMENT
The participants will be assessed through formative assessments during plenary and syndicate sessions where active contribution to discussions will be highly appreciated. The seminar includes a final summative assessment where participants will be asked to present a short back brief in accordance with a given task.
