About the Royal Guard

The Royal Guard is composed of those who guard the two royal palaces, the Royal Palace in Stockholm and Drottningholm Palace. The Royal Guard is an important part of the protection of the palaces and of Stockholm’s military readiness.

The Royal Guard, with its centuries-long history in Stockholm, is a popular tourist attraction that draws hundreds of thousands of spectators every year. In this way, the Royal Guard has for many become a symbol of Stockholm and the royal palaces.

Today, 50 to 60 men and women serve in the Royal Guard, of which 35 are stationed at the Royal Palace in Stockholm and 25 at Drottningholm Palace. The Royal Guard is staffed by soldiers and sailors from units across the country. The guard personnel rotate according to an annually recurring schedule.
