Where and when you can see the guard parade to the Royal Palace in Stockholm depends on the time of year, the day of the week, and whether the parade is mounted or on foot. Information about the daily schedule can be found in the calendar at the bottom of this page.
THE GUARD PARADE
The guard parade to the Royal Palace can be either mounted or on foot. The mounted guard parade includes the Life Guards’ Dragoon Music Corps and takes place on selected days from April through August. The parade starts at the cavalry barracks on Lidingövägen 28 and proceeds along Sturegatan, Stureplan, Birger Jarlsgatan, Nybroplan, Hamngatan, Kungsträdgårdsgatan, Strömgatan, Gustav Adolfs torg, and Norrbro.
The guard parade on foot departs from the Army Museum on Riddargatan 13. The parade route goes along Artillerigatan, Strandvägen, Nybroplan, Hamngatan, Kungsträdgårdsgatan, Strömgatan, Gustav Adolfs torg, and Norrbro. On selected days, the guard parade on foot departs from Sergels torg, following a route along Hamngatan, Kungsträdgårdsgatan, Strömgatan, Gustav Adolfs torg, and Norrbro.
In November and December, the parade instead departs from Mynttorget in the Old Town. The parade route then circles the Royal Palace, entering the Outer Courtyard. On certain winter days, the parade departs from the Army Museum.
THE CHANGING OF THE GUARD
The guard parade’s march leads to the Outer Courtyard of the Royal Palace, where the changing of the guard takes place. The ceremony begins at 12:15 p.m. on weekdays (including Saturdays) and at 1:15 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays. It lasts for about 40 minutes.
Times and locations for the guard parade and the changing of the guard are subject to change.
