Personnel
In the Swedish Armed Forces, more than 26,000 people work daily. Of these, 24 percent are women and 76 percent are men.
Employees of the Swedish Armed Forces are divided into full-time personnel (employees whose main employer is the Armed Forces) and part-time personnel (employees who have another main employer or are studying but serve with us periodically). In addition to employed personnel, there are also women and men who have signed service agreements with us, primarily within the Home Guard.
Full-time personnel consist of approximately 9,700 professional officers, around 5,700 full-time non-commissioned officers, full-time soldiers, and full-time sailors, as well as about 10,200 civilian employees.
The system with part-time personnel and personnel with service agreements is unique to the Armed Forces. These two types of personnel primarily work with us during exercises or military operations, but then return to their main civilian activities. Part-time personnel include a total of approximately 7,100 reserve officers and about 4,700 part-time non-commissioned officers, part-time soldiers, and part-time sailors. At the turn of the year, the Home Guard consisted of around 22,200 women and men.
In total, there are more than 56,000 women and men in the Swedish Armed Forces. In addition, there are conscripts assigned to wartime positions who can be called up under the Total Defence Service Obligation Act.
