Military cooperation

Sweden’s security is closely connected to developments in the rest of the world. Therefore, we cooperate with other countries to preserve peace and strengthen security – both in Europe and globally.

EU and the UN

Sweden is active in the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy. We work together with other member states on issues related to crises and conflicts. The UN’s mission forms the basis for many of our military operations.

NATO and Partnership for Peace
Sweden is a member of NATO and also participates in the Partnership for Peace cooperation. This allows us to train and collaborate with other countries to better contribute to peacekeeping efforts and defence.

Other forms of cooperation
• EDA (European Defence Agency): An EU initiative to develop member states’ military capabilities.
• NTG (NATO Training Group): A training program aimed at improving cooperation between different countries’ armed forces.
• JEF (Joint Expeditionary Force): A rapid reaction force where Sweden cooperates with, among others, the United Kingdom, Norway, and the Baltic states.

Environmental Cooperation

The Swedish Armed Forces also participate in international projects to reduce the environmental impact of military activities.
