Defending Sweden
The Swedish Armed Forces defends Sweden through a combination of military defence, surveillance, total defence, and alliances, in order to ensure the country’s security and independence.

The Swedish Armed Forces is always prepared to act in order to quickly raise readiness in the event of a crisis or war. The Home Guard, the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force protect the nation’s territory with ground forces, naval units, and fighter aircraft. At the same time, continuous surveillance of the airspace and territorial waters is carried out to handle potential intrusions, while the cyber defence protects the country against digital threats.
In a very serious security situation and with a challenging international environment, the government has decided to strengthen Sweden’s military defence capability. Together with others, we are building a strong, modern, and flexible defence that can meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
To build a stronger defence, we train—frequently and extensively—both on our own and with other countries. In the unpredictable security situation we face, the Swedish Armed Forces must continue to develop in order to maintain the right capabilities over time.
