Welcome to the Commanding Officer Seminar on Gender Perspective, September 17-19 2019!
We are looking forward to see you at the Nordic Centre for Gender in Military Operations (NCGM).
On the first day, we will provide you with background, terms and definitions in combination with practical examples on how gender perspective can be integrated into military operations and military planning. The aim is to discard the most common “myths” regarding working with gender perspective. The day will end at the Officers’ Mess Hall where refreshments will be served.
The seminar will continue on the second day with why a gender perspective relevant in military operations. Operational effectiveness and how a gender perspective can be used as an operational tool will be discussed. The participants will also be briefed on how to put policy into practice in the presentation of the international framework related to UNSCR 1325 and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda. The seminar will then move on to specific topics such as STRATCOM, Conflict-related Sexual and Gender-based violence, and Special Operations Forces.
In the evening of the second seminar day, an informal dinner will be served at the Officers’ Mess Hall in the company of Subject Matter Experts within the area of Gender.
On the third day, we will discuss how the different gender functions (Gender Advisers and Gender Focal Points) can be used as a resource to Commanding Officers and there will be briefings from Gender Advisers currently deployed at strategic and operational level.
We hope that you, by the end of the course, will be able to bring back valuable ideas on how gender perspectives can be used by you in your daily work.
