The overall aim of EUTM RCA is to assist the Central African Republic by providing support for the ongoing reform of the defence and security sector. This initiative will provide strategic advice to the country’s Ministry of Defence, military forces and armed forces. EUTM RCA is expected to include around 170 people and began on 16 July 2016.

The primary aim of the contribution is to provide training, and it includes planning, implementation and monitoring of an infantry battalion, “Bataillon d’Infanterie Territorial”. A significant proportion of the training time is being devoted to training soldiers, but emphasis is also being placed on providing training at platoon level. The training includes elements such as weapons management, combat training, orientation and healthcare services.

EUTM stands for European Union Training Mission, and RCA stands for République centrafricaine, the French abbreviation for Central African Republic.
