I congratulate you on being selected to participate in the Civil Military Relations Course (CMR). I can assure you that a well prepared and devoted team of instructors with international experience is looking forward to welcome you at the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre (SWEDINT).
CMR requires a lot of attention. Do not bring your regular duties with you. As you have already figured out, the official language will be English, both at lectures and during social events. You must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
During the course period, there will be an interaction between the participants from civilian-, police- and military organisations: This interaction between the students is extremely valuable and the whole course relies heavily on this. Hopefully this creates a wide understanding of the complexity in a Peace Support Operation.
I would also like you to prepare a short briefing (5 min) about your normal work and the organisation you are working for.
To ensure good course results, you are expected to take active part during the lessons and to socialize with other students. Actually, one of the most important things during the course is to create an environment similar to what you will find in a ”Mission Area”. Subsequently, the weekend arrangements are part of the course as well and you have to take part in these arrangements.
Hopefully, CMR will give you a good comprehension of what may be expected in a Peace Support Operation, so that you are prepared to handle difficult and unexpected situations.
Last but not least: If you need a VISA apply as soon as possible, it is a concern for the incoming student!
Welcome to SWEDINT and CMR 2016.
