Course Purpose
To prepare civilian representatives from Governmental-, UN- and/or Humanitarian organisations (Non-Governmental organisations), at middle-management level, for assignments in Peacekeeping Operations led by the UN or a regional organisation. The course will also provide the participants with knowledge about how a modern integrated UN mission functions with focus on its three components: civilian, police and military.
Learning Objectives
Main focus will be on:
- UN Multifunctional Peacekeeping Operations in an integrated mission concept.
- Co-ordination and co-operation between the different components and other organisations working in the conflict area within a UN HQ and sub- HQ’s.
- General knowledge of the different components (civilian, military and police) in a mission area and their respective working procedures.
- The role of Humanitarian Organisations.
- General knowledge of the UN Integrated Mission Planning Process (IMPP) components.
- General knowledge of the DDR-process.
- General knowledge of the elections-processes.
- General knowledge of the significance of gender and trafficking in a UN mission.
- General knowledge of protection of civilians.
- General knowledge of meeting techniques, mediation and working with interpreters.
