Course Purpose
To prepare nationally trained Staff Officers from NATO and PfP countries for assignments in Peace Support Operations (PSO), by giving them a working knowledge of NATO/PfP staff procedures, in order to function at a NATO led multinational Headquarters.

Learning Objectives
Main focus will be on:
- Understanding current NATO policy for PSO's.
- Introduction to and practice in a NATO operational planning process (OPP), including development of orders and plans.
- Co-operation between a military staff and different civilian components (GO's, NGO's), together with the various parties involved in a conflict.
- Sharing experiences of working in multinational PSO’s.
- Overview of different aspects of PSO's, especially:
– Rules of Engagement (ROE)
– Terms, tactics and techniques
– NATO InfoOps and PsyOps
– Cultural Awareness
– UN Police in PSO
– Working with interpreters including practical training
– Media relations in a PSO including practical training
– Negotiation and liaison
