Course Purpose
To prepare NATO and partner officers to serve within an operational level headquarters as operations planners, applying the Comprehensive Operations Planning Directive (COPD) and the principles of a Comprehensive Approach.
Level: Joint or component HQ
Ranks: Maj – Col (OF 3 to OF 5) or Civilian equivalent.
Learning Objectives
Participants will acquire a fundamental understanding of:
- The NATO Crisis Response System and the relation to the UN and the EU.
- The NATO Response Force (NRF) and Deployable Joint Staff Element (DJSE) concepts.
- The nature of modern conflicts and the conduct of NATO Crisis Response Operations.
- The principles of Joint Operations Planning according to the Comprehensive Operations Planning Directive (COPD).
- The requirement for co-operation and co-ordination with non-military actors (civilian, humanitarian, police) in a theatre of operations according to the principles of comprehensive approach.
Nomination
National authorities are to appoint nominees for application to NATO school, Oberammergau, according to the bidding system.
