Course Purpose
The overall purpose of the Military English Course for nationally trained staff officers from UN/NATO/PfP/EU/AU countries is to improve the individual staff officer´s ability to use military English, primarily speaking and writing, in order to prepare for assignments in a headquarters in a Peace Support Operation or as a participant in multinational Command Post Exercises.
Ranks: Capt - Col and Sgt FC-WO 1 (OF2 - OF5 and OR6-9) or Civilian equivalent
Learning Objectives
Main focus will be on:
- Describing a headquarters organisation at divisional level and the tasks of staff officers in the headquarters.
- Explaining the principles of Peace Support Operations (PSO).
- How to conduct a staff briefing.
- Recalling and explaing the content and stages of the operational planning process (OPP).
- Describing and explaing the principles of Land, Air and Maritime Operations in a PSO.
- Recalling and utilising abbreviations and acronyms related to a headquarters and staff processes.
- Participating in and contributing to a seminar with a military or strategic theme.
- Reading, listening and extracting information from a Military Briefing.
- Using a selection of military English colloquialisms and phrasal verbs.
- How to write a formal correspondence.
