Course Purpose
This one-week course focuses on project management for police officers with previous peace support mission experience or police officers assigned to peace support missions in the near future. The primary target group is officers who will have a position with responsibility for project and programme planning or those who will have a project officer position. The course has a case-based learning and participatory approach.
The course is directed by the Swedish National Bureau of Investigation and conducted in co-operation with SWEDINT.
Learning Objectives
The main focus of the course will be on:
- Principles and norms of democratic policing.
- International research on success and shortcomings in police reform.
- Supporting reform, restructuring and rebuilding of police organisations.
- Project planning approach and method:
- Participatory approach to planning
- Goal oriented project planning
- Project monitoring and reporting
- Assessing relevance, feasiblilty and sustainability of projects.
- Practical experience of project implementation in post conflict missions.
