Gender Field Advisor Course

Course Purpose

The Gender Field Advisor Course is a basic one-week course designed
to train individuals as a first step towards the function of Gender Field Advisor. The course provides an overview of the operational and tactical levels for all kinds of military and/or SSR operations, as well as staff exercises.
A Gender Field Advisor is the commander´s or the head of mission’s strongest resource in the implementation of gender dimension into planning, execution and evaluation of an operation.

Learning Objectives

Main focus will be on:

  • Knowledge and background of UNSCR's 1325 and 1820 and gender perspectives in operations.
  • General Orientations of experiences and Lessons Learned from previous operations with Gender Field Advisors.
  • Methods, policy and best practises.
  • Case Studies.
  • Co-operation with other actors internal and external (NGO's, IO's) in order to integrate UNSCR 1325, 1820 and gender dimensions into the daily work.
  • Ability to establish co-operation and to handle challenges in the work of fully integrating UNSCR 1325, 1820 and gender dimensions into operations.
  • Integration of gender dimensions into the Operational Planning Process (OPP) (planning, execution and evaluation).
  • Gender as an operational tool.
  • Code of Conduct
  • General knowledge about Gender in relation to UN-, EU-, NATO- and OSCE documents, policies, directives.
