The Special Operations Task Group is a national strategic resource led by the Armed Forces’ operational commander. The soldiers are specially selected, and have received special training and equipment for the tasks which conventional units, for various reasons, cannot solve. Their assignments may include, for example, rescuing Swedish nationals in international service or engaging in intelligence gathering.

The main task of the Special Operations Task Group’s is to operate in multinational operations where the special operations system will be able to contribute by providing a group that is designed to solve specific tasks. This also includes the specially selected, trained and equipped support units for air and sea transportation, technical support, logistics and medical care.  The group will solve three primary tasks: combat, intelligence gathering and military support.

The composition of the Special Operations Task Group depends on the tasks to be solved. This means that the soldiers need to be able to operate in groups of 2 people to larger special operations forces. Because of the tasks the Special Operations Group will be assigned to, a high level of preparedness is required along with carefully selected personnel; there is also the need for very high quality equipment that has been adapted to the task.
