The 48th World Military Naval Pentathlon Championship Opened

The sun was shining over Berga Naval Base when all teams and guests of honour gathered beside the Obstacle track for the Opening Ceremony of Championship.

– Inside the Naval Pentathlon we can find the model of the Military Competition: Strength, Endurance, Agility, Accuracy and Skills. In one word, all the requirements of a good sailor and a good athlete, Captain Luiz Serrano, Brazilian and Official CISM Representative, says.

Eleven nations from Americas, Asia and Europe will participate in the Championship. The games start on Tuesday the 21st of August and ends with the Amphibious Cross Country Race on Friday the 24th. Indonesia is not participating but has two observers during the time.

The Chief of Staff of the Royal Swedish Navy, Rear Admiral Jan Thörnqvist, ended his speak with:
– I wish you a warm welcome and good luck, along with a very pleasant stay in Sweden and at 1st Marine Regiment. I hereby declare the 48th Naval Pentathlon Championship open- Friendship through Sports- Let the game begin!

In the autumn of 1941, a number of Russian submarines left their bases to patrol the Baltic Sea. Some of them never returned. One of them has now been found, exploded in large pieces, southeast of Öland.

From The National Home Guard to Chief of Staff

39 years ago, Anders Brännström began his career as a Home Guard Recruit in Luleå. On Thursday, the Major General became the new Chief of Staff Swedish Army, and at a ceremony in Stockholm, his predecessor Major General Berndt Grundevik handed over the command.

On Friday the 24th the last races of Naval Pentathlon took place, the Amphibious Cross-Country Race. The Race consists of different elements such as running, shooting,paddling and hand grenade throwing.

– I´m very happy and pleased to get a victory in this noble race. I knew that some of my opponents are stronger so I had to be smarter. That was my strategy and I succeeded, Marcus from Sweden says.

- I feel great. I won the race and I have set a new World Best Time with 3 minutes and 31 seconds. I had a good start but tided my fingers to the rope, the Norwegian girl says.
