NBG övningsserien 2010

NBG – Exercises 2010

In January 2011, it is Sweden, which for the second time is responsible for having a Rapid Reaction Force ready for action. The strength that Sweden leads is the Nordic Battlegroup, NBG, is an important part in strengthening peace, freedom and democracy in both Sweden, Europe and other parts of the world.

There is now only a few months left until the NBG to solve specialized tasks on behalf of the European Union. To manage the task force must be trained so challenging and realistic as possible.

Practice Series began in the spring of 2010 when Swedish conscripts had their final practice in Southern Sweden, System Training Exercise and Joint Challenge, along with parts of the NBG.

For two weeks in September have also exercise Illuminated Summer implemented. It was a command post exercise in which the current exercise scenario was played. The game had just begun to arrive NBG personnel and equipment to an operational area in order to start solving their task. Rapid Reaction Force's leadership, the so-called Force Headquarters (FHQ) was trained to lead the Battlegroup operations in the area.

The focus is now on the home stretch of this exercise series - the one that is implemented in each country - and even the common end of the exercises carried out in southern Sweden during October and November, Bold Lightning, Initial Effort and Joint Action.

Joint Action is over, and so is the entire exercise series of the Nordic Battle Group. It has been intense but successful. “I am incredibly proud of the commitment that is shown by my soldiers and my officers. The most important job of the military police is to maintain order and safety within the Nordic Battle Group. There are five different nationalities included in this unit, which may seem like a challenge, but thanks to comprehensive training and a good mix of people the work has progressed without friction.

In the final exercise of the Nordic Battle Group, Joint Action, media relations are a given. To be able to make your intentions clear is a big part of establishing a relationship and gaining trust in a foreign country. That is why participants in the Nordic Battle Group need to be trained in how to handle the media and how to represent the Swedish Armed Forces in the best possible way in doing so.
