EMFC09 – European Military Fencing Championship

A warm welcome to Sweden and Gothenburg. It is an honour for us  – the Air Defence Regiment, (Lv 6) in Halmstad Garrison and the Swedish Armed Forces Centre for Defence Medicine (SWECDM) in Gothenburg Garrison – to host and arrange the European Military Fencing Championship.

Our garrisons are well known for their unique facilities, competencies and capabilities, Ground Based Air Defence Systems in Halmstad and Medical education skills in Gothenburg. The Air Defence Regiment is the mentor of military fencing within the Swedish Armed Forces, with an experience from 100 years of military fencing. SWECDM is a centre for both national and international developments within military medicine.

During Your stay with us we will give you the opportunity to discover more about the Swedish Armed Forces and Gothenburg, generally called “the Pearl of the Swedish West Coast”. The city’s location by the sea means that fishing industry, shipyard and offshore business all have a stronghold in Gothenburg and its surroundings. During your stay we will together experience more of Swedish Naval history.

The Regiment's personnel have put considerable energy into arranging this first European Championship, in order to create the best possible conditions so that you as participants will be able to perform to your utmost.

My hope is that you all will leave Gothenburg after a well run championship with lifetime memories of a rewarding and enjoyable occasion in the best spirit – friendship through sport.
